Topshop lipstick in 'Innocent'

I wanted to try a Topshop lipstick but unfortunately the store that I have the easiest access to (that I can walk to so I don’t have to pay parking charges) doesn’t stock makeup.  Obviously I could have ordered online (but as I’ve said before I hate paying postage, especially just for a lipstick) and I wanted to use a gift voucher which I don’t believe you can use online.

When I went to the Bristol Bloggers meetup I wasn’t planning to buy anything when we went shopping but I thought I would take my voucher along in case Bristol’s Topshop stocked makeup, and it did!  So with my £5 voucher I got this for just £3.

I had already checked online and decided that I liked the look of Macaroon, but when I got there they didn’t have it (typical!).  So I had a browse around (which wasn’t easy as the makeup was near the tills and the queue was kind of blocking the makeup stand) and decided on trying Innocent.

Is anybody else haunted by phantom pieces of fluff when they try to photograph a lipstick?  Every time I go to edit lipstick pictures I find that a sneaky piece of fluff has popped itself on the bullet ready for the close-up shot.  Usually it’s white but today’s piece of fluff is black, although to be honest you can hardly see it.

I really like the black outer packaging which is clean and simple with a matte black box with white writing and a sketch type drawing of the lipstick.  I’m not a fan of white packaging on any products including makeup, laptops, phones etc but I do actually kind of like the white on this lipstick.  It doesn’t look plastic or tacky in any way and I like the effect of the messy black lines going round the tube.  The twist on this lipstick also feels really sturdy and not at all loose in any way like a few lipsticks I have looked at recently.

Innocent is kind of a mid pink, like a dusty pink kind of shade which I think on me is a ’my lips but better’ shade.  It’s not really noticeable but a nice subtle hint of colour.

This comes in a velvet finish which is a new one for me and I wasn’t sure what exactly this would mean in a lipstick, but velvet is actually a really good description for the formula/finish.  It’s not really shiny or glossy but is not matte either, it has just a nice hint of shine to it.  I was concerned it may be a little dry like a matte lipstick but it’s not at all it has a lovely soft smooth formula that glides on easily and does feel moisturising.

As for staying power I would say it probably lasts a couple of hours or so.  It doesn’t leave any kind of stain of colour behind to make it appear to last longer but it’s also not such a noticeable shade that you end up with that ‘I was wearing lipstick but it’s mostly worn off’ look.  I can see this becoming my go to lipstick for when I can’t be bothered with something bright but don’t want to go bare lipped.

When I checked the Topshop website I was unable to find this shade but it may still be available in stores and of course there are other shades available.
