Stila Smudge Pots gel eye liner - Cobalt

This is my first Stila product and I won this as part of a blog giveaway prize.  I was really looking forward to trying this as I have several gel eye liners which are all black and I’ve wanted to try one in a different colour for a while.

This comes in a very cute little natural coloured cardboard box and inside you find a glass looking pot (I’m not quite sure if it is actually glass) with a silver lid.  The actual gel looks like its kind of floating in the centre of the pot but mine does have a messy bit on one side.  Not quite sure what might have happened there!

In my experience of using gel eye liner’s the gel is soft and you only have to lightly tap the brush against the gel to get it onto the brush.  When I first attempted to use this I was disappointed to find that it was really hard and impossible to try and get onto the brush.  It appears to be so hard that even swiping my finger across it doesn’t pick up very much product.  The only way to get any product off appears to be to push my nail in and dig a little bit out.

As I’ve said this is my first Stila product so I have no idea whether this may be standard for their eye liners or whether there may be something wrong with mine.

A few weeks ago I did a post on the shelf life and expiry dates of products so I decided to check whether Stila products were supported by the Cosmetics Calculator.  Stila products are supported so I popped in the code from the bottom of the pack and discovered that this was manufactured in March 2008.  This means this is now over 5 years old so I’m guessing this may be past it’s best and that might be why it’s so hard.

Has anybody else tried Stila’s Smudge Pots and how did you find them?
